Wednesday Poetry Café (June 23)

Since I’ve been playing with my new iPhone 4 all day, this is the first chance I’ve gotten to write today’s post for the first Wednesday Poetry Café.  Wednesday Poetry Café will be made up of lots of things from just a poem by a famous poet to even some of my own poems.  I may even review some poetry anthologies or books on this day, as well.  You are welcome to discuss the poem in the comments, and maybe one day I can turn this into a weekly meme!

Here is a poem by one of the greatest (albeit craziest) authors that most people have ever read–Edgar Allan Poe.  You either hate him or love him.  Personally, I love him.  He was a literary genius!

A Dream by Edgar Allan Poe
In visions of the dark night

I have dreamed of joy departed-
But a waking dream of life and light
Hath left me broken-hearted.
Ah! what is not a dream by day
To him whose eyes are cast
On things around him with a ray
Turned back upon the past?
That holy dream- that holy dream,
While all the world were chiding,
Hath cheered me as a lovely beam
A lonely spirit guiding.
What though that light, thro’ storm and night,
So trembled from afar-
What could there be more purely bright
In Truth’s day-star?
